About

KeepsUntil answers one question about food: how long it keeps, and where. Every figure comes from the USDA FoodKeeper data; everything compared between those figures is computed here and can be checked against the source.

What this is

A reference, not advice. The USDA publishes storage windows across the 661 records of its FoodKeeper file and stops there. This site turns those windows into the questions a person actually has at an open refrigerator: what the freezer buys, what opening the package costs, where a food stands against its neighbors on the same shelf, and what a date on the calendar works out to. None of those four numbers exists in the source.

What it cannot tell you

It cannot see your food. A window is a published figure for an unopened package handled as the source assumes; it is not a verdict on the item in your hand. Where a figure is a safety limit rather than a matter of quality, every page says which and why, and the rule that decides it is written out on the past the date page.

Who publishes it

BiLingoPlus LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. The site is independent: it is not affiliated with the USDA, the FDA or any food producer, it sells nothing, and it carries no affiliate links. Advertising, when it appears, is marked as advertising.

Corrections

Figures are parsed mechanically, so a mismatch with the source is a bug rather than an opinion. Tell us the page and the row on the contact page. How the site is built, and which numbers are ours, is set out on the method page.

KeepsUntil is an independent reference built on public USDA data. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the U.S. Department of Agriculture or the Food and Drug Administration. Whether a given window is a safety limit or a quality window is stated on the page that prints it.
